After obtaining his PhD in petroleum engineering from USA, Dr. Jaber Al-Marri started his career as a well-site petroleum engineer. His work ethic and determination helped him rise to the highest levels of responsibility in the petroleum industry, from where he has made significant contributions to the development of Qatar as a major oil & gas exporter.
In his role with Qatar Petroleum (QP), Dr. Al-Marri was involved in major onshore and offshore oil field development activities and was responsible for a significant increase in oil production, optimization of facilities, maximizing crude oil production and enhancing reservoir management. He also negotiated several concessions to international petroleum companies such as Amoco, Occidental, Elf and Maersk.
After he was promoted to managing director of QP, he contributed to the strategic master plan for the development of the North Field gas reserve, managing stage one of the project and leading the negotiation team. He was then appointed chairman of Qatargas and RasGas to exploit the potential of the huge reserve. Dr. Al-Marri also initiated plans for the development of the new Ras Laffan Port and Industrial City.
In his 35 years in the industry, he has established excellent working relationships with some of the world’s leading corporations, banks and government institutions in the Middle East, North America, Europe, South East Asia and Africa. He is frequently invited to address major industry conferences and seminars around the world.
